Women and World War I
Many local men and boys joined the military during World War I. Some made the ultimate sacrifice. However, what is less known is that from the outbreak of the war, the parish's patriotic women and girls were also quick to mobilise in support of the war effort. For some, the war opened up new opportunities in the world of work. This talk uncovers some of the fascinating stories and roles these women undertook and considers why these often untold stories remain important.
